It was written for a wedding of two lovely friends of mine, he a tenor, she an alto. The first half, sounding a bit like bells, is the joy of the wedding; the third quarter hints that life may have its troubles to contend with; but the first chord of the final quarter offers the thought that with a cheeky smile and a raised eyebrow (definitely facets of the groom's character!), together, you can get through anything. The altos, in the final bars, have the last word. The bride, I believe, felt this was right and proper. | |
